I'm not ready for this.

A conversation with Jake. Not sure where the subject came from. We were talking about choosing books at the library when...

Jake: "I hope I marry a girl named Kaitlin or Emily."
Me: "Oh. Because you like those names?"
Jake: "Yes."
Me: "So do you like those names because of the girls you know?"
Jake: "I only know a girl named Emily. I'm not going to marry her."

And the subject seemed closed. Fine with me! But then...

Jake: "Mom, you know I only like one girl."
Me: "Huh?"
Jake: "You know, Jillian!"
Me: (no words...)

Uh oh! Oh well, I guess we can be confident that this little crush won't progress too far since she's got the wrong name!

I'm glad you wrote this down for posterity. One afternoon when I was a kid, my Dad and I guessed what my brother's future wife's name would be. We wrote it down and sealed it up and put it in a drawer. Years and years later I found it, when getting ready to move out to get married. I had the right name on my piece of paper!!!! So the moral is: you just never know!

He's keeping his options open. Smart lad.

LOL; my oldest, age 4, has been telling her brother about the facts of life, and the discussion always includes a matter-of-fact reference to how she's going to marry a particular boy she knows. Period.
